Benefits and Limitations of Inclusiveness

When Founding a new Vine group, Chaplain's Corner I struggled with how best to implement my desire for the group to be totally inclusive. Here is the problem with which I struggled, and continue to struggle.

The goals of Chaplain's Corner are these.

Contribute and encourage others to post articles and comments which address universal human needs. The kinds of needs which people have that motivate them to seek out pastoral and chaplaincy services. The ups, downs, and daily drudgery of life events and experiences. I wanted them to have a reference set of articles which deal with such topics as births, deaths, loves, loss of love, education, graduation, life rite of passage events, special events, marriages, divorces, wellness, illness, mourning and death. A place where Viners can go and both teach and learn from one another.

A group where people can network to build up a matrix of support where they can go to help, and seek help for such things as they need, in the way which works best for them.

To acheive this, I want the group to be inclusive of all Viners. A place where there is an atmosphere of mutual respect, warmth, caring and sharing. A non-doctrinal site. A place where every one wins, because no one can lose. A group where we can all be our Viners keeper.

I therefore chose to make it open to the public. This will allow anyone who wishes to apply. Who can say who will be helpful to someone else in the way that the person seeking help actually wants? Who can predict who will need a helping hand?

On the other hand there is a limitation to the goal of inclusiveness. Who can predict with high accuracy who will try to come and derail the goals and reason for the group? Who can know in advance who will endeavor to misuse the group for an agenda that is other than its stated purposes?

In general most Viners who want to have a safe and trustworthy place to share ideas, help and obtain assistance have done themselves and the Vine proud in articles I have written and co-authored.

Where I am at this point in time is that I want everyone, all Viners, whatever they hold dear, be it a religion, philosophy, or some other approach to life to feel like they can apply to, teach and learn in, comfort and find solace at such a room. I shall err on the side of accepting all who are known to be mature, intelligent, compassionate adults.

I shall also reserve the right to delete errant posts, articles, and remove from the group those who are looking to negate its values, or use it for nefarious activities.

In a perfect world. we would not need to concern ourselves with such matters. Regrettably, this is not yet a perfect world.

It is my responsibility, as group founder and moderator to insure that this group can trust that the fellowship will not be hijacked by the worse side of human nature. For those that are sincere, let us work together to bring out the better side of all of us. To be there for one another. This is what makes the potential of the Vine so great. That we can rise above petty and immature acts. That we can ascend to working together in peace and harmony so all come out ahead, each in the way they choose to live their life.

Peace and Blessings to one and all. Enoch.

Thanks for the guidelines and direction. It gives me some ideas for articles.

May I clip my article about Sheldon Kopp to Chaplain's Corner?

I too have an idea for an article but it's difficult for me to write. However, you can be sure that I will contribute something in the near future.

Thanks for the guidelines, E. I think it's a great idea and I'm sure you'll do a terrific job of handling the group.

Though I understand the concept you would like to implement, yet it is unrealistic, because though I as a Christian would not impose myself upon any, yet in every topic of discussion, there are views of what is right and wrong, good and evil, according to not only other religions, but also according to the secular. It may be on occasions their views are in line with the truth according to my God, but when they are not, then they are not, and I or any other Christian ought not too withhold the truth according to our God to spare other´s feelings, inasmuch as we know surely that they would not spare. I speak not as in competition, but only and strictly as one answering a question with whose will I believe in. As a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ I would never refer to whose view is right and wrong, but can only refer to His will in whom I believe, and deny mine own.

Dear Lastofall: If this group and its premises is unrealistic for you, then this isn't the right place for you to be.

You are free to found your own group. That is the strength of a Democracy. To each their own. No one should be compelled against their own will to anything contrary to what they opine they should.

For those who can rise above doctrinal self imposed boundaries, there is a whole world and it is filled with many diverse and beautiful people. Not everyone wishes to shut themselves off from it. They remain open to it for the good of humanity, and the glory of G-d.

I wish you well where ever you elect to go, and in whatever journey you choose to follow.

Sorry that you feel you cannot fit in here.

    Peace and Blessings. Enoch.

Sincere thanks for the invitation, Enoch. I'm not sure whether you consider me to be someone with something to contribute, or someone who needs the benefit of the wisdom to be collected here, or maybe a bit of both. Either way, I'm honored that you thought of me.

Dear Friend Tzia: Sure, seeds, original articles,. links, comments. Anything that can help people address the universal problems we all face. Life vents, daily drudgery, and the highs and lows of life.

Examples are birth, school, friends, enemies, rites of passage to adulthood, graduation, romance, marriages, divorcees, first job, hiring, firing, lay offs, first home, first car, children, grandchildren, wellness, illness, death, affluence and destitution.

If it is a part of life, and it would bring someone to a Pastor or a Chaplain, it belongs here.

All I ask, and I know this will never be problematic from you, is not to get bogged down with things which separate us. This is to be a group of unity, dignity, helping and being helped by.

    Peace and Blessings. Enoch.

I am known for having the shortest sermons of any clergy around these parts. I found that the less you say, the more they remember.

I have always thought every group that seeks to do good in this world - including our atheist brethren ;~) have a truth to teach.

I am so glad you have provided that space here.

And the part I like the best - is that everyone can still hold true to their individual faith.

No one has to give up anything to reach out to others.

    Thank you again. Great articles,too!

Dear Friend Katheryn Brandy: Superlative observation.

We must all be true to ourselves. Somewhere in all our value systems is the idea that we can do what we do, and work with others who see things through their own eyes.

    Well said! Thanks.

    Peace and Blessings, Enoch.
